“Eid’l Fitr 

Proclamation No. 629 series of 2013, signed by President Benigno Aquino III Thursday, named Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) “a regular holiday throughout the country.”
August 9 has been declared a holiday in the predominantly Catholic Philippines to “promote cultural understanding and integration,” the Palace said.  Read more

TODAY, Inquirer reports that The Supreme Court will push through with its special en banc (full court)  to discuss the disbarment complaint against acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio. Anti-crime crusader Lauro Vizconde who accused Carpio of allegedly using his influence to secure appointments to essential government posts.

The deliberation and voting of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for the shortlist of candidates will follow, to be submitted to President P-noy.

As of June 14, Inquirer.net reports JBC had received 11 nominations and applications for Chief Justice. Below is the list.
